The Energy, Environment and Experiential Learning project was developed in response to the necessity for modern, high quality undergraduate learning environment at the University of Calgary. The new facility is student centric, providing opportunities for hands-on and experiential learning in both individual and collaborative settings. EEEL provides instructional space for expanded programs in energy and environment, new teaching laboratories for biology and chemistry, as well as administrative space for the Institute for Sustainable Energy, Environment and Economy and the School of Public Policy. The project is a landmark building of interactive learning and an exhibition of sustainable strategies. The project was designed to achieve a LEED “Gold” standard and effectively reduce the facility operating costs by 50 percent.
